The "Us" always wins
The goals of Aktion Mensch are to improve the living conditions of people with disabilities, children and young people and to promote inclusion – equal opportunities in society.
The three areas – social lottery, project funding and education – are closely interlinked: around 4.6 million players regularly take part in the lottery and thus lay the financial foundation. This makes it the largest private funding organization in the social sector in Germany. At the same time, the association draws attention to socially relevant issues with nationwide awareness campaigns and activities. Aktion Mensch's commitment is always about a win-win situation for everyone. Thus, there is a good reason for its claim "Das Wir gewinnt" ("The Us always wins").
Selected Projects
Volunteering Platform
First accessible Platform for Volunteering in Germany
Aktion Mensch's range of services for volunteering and inclusive volunteering has taken an enormous leap forward: the volunteer database, which has been in existence since 2008, has been fundamentally renewed and expanded into a comprehensive platform.
A Multitude of decentralized Touchpoints
The volunteering platform can be accessed via the Aktion Mensch web portal. But not only there: the entire application can also be integrated free of charge by partners on external websites, for example by regional volunteer agencies or associations. Using a simple configuration, they can even adapt the design and function of the application to their individual requirements and corporate design.
Developed together with Experts and the Target Group
During the course of the project, numerous workshops were held with experts from the volunteer agencies and committed people. This ensured that the new offer meets the needs of both target groups in a best-possible way.
A complete accessible Package
As part of the project, d-SIRE was responsible for consulting, design and UX as well as the entire technical implementation in the front and back end. The application was implemented in the Microsoft Azure Cloud and offers interfaces for connecting external services. The closed administration environment was also implemented completely according to accessibility standards.
Family Guide for People with Disabilities and their Relatives
Successful for more than 20 Years
The comprehensive online portal Familienratgeber.de (family guide) offers a wide range of content and support services for people with disabilities and their relatives.
Originally launched as a Lebenshilfe project, it was taken over by Aktion Mensch in the early 2000s and developed further together with d-SIRE.
Comprehensive Relaunch in 2023
The new Familienratgeber was developed in a user-centered way and tested with the respective target groups at an early stage.
A very high level of accessibility was a key project requirement - both for the public website and for the content management system. Craft CMS was particularly convincing in our evaluation.
Editorial Content also in Easy Language
The topic of disability can become significant at different stages. From prenatal examinations and various events in the course of life through to old age.
The family guide offers practical orientation and assistance in all areas of life as well as on questions regarding legal claims and benefits.
A unique feature is that the entire (!) editorial content is also available in Easy Language.
Local Addresses for Advice, Self-help and other Services
The Familienratgeber provides contacts to over 25,000 initiatives, advice centers and social institutions. A network of regional partners maintains the data records in their area and keeps them up to date.
Visitors can combine their geographical location with the services offered by the respective organization to search for specific addresses.
Everything out of one Hand
d-SIRE was fully responsible for the realization of the Familienratgeber. From the implementation of the target group workshops, the information concept and the UX design to the front-end programming and implementation. Both for the comprehensive editorial content and its barrier-free administration, as well as for the backend development of the regional partner area.
Aktion Mensch Map
The Diversity of Aktion Mensch all in one Place
Funded projects in the vicinity, voluntary work or events for people with and without disabilities, even the winners of the lottery are shown here in the surrounding area: The Aktion Mensch map bundles the diverse geo-localizable activities and impressively shows their impact in real life.
In this way, the three pillars of Aktion Mensch – lottery, funding and education – find a common location and a common interface.
Differentiated Visualization of various Characteristics
While precise localization makes sense for funding projects and locations for voluntary work, it is only necessary to display data on lottery winners for the respective map section in aggregated form.
Challenge: a highly dynamic accessible Map
The map offers extremely complex interaction behavior. Depending on the zoom level, activities are either grouped together or listed separately. Individual sub-activities can be selected using filter functions. And last but not least, detailed views reveal additional information.
With this project, we were able to prove that such dynamic applications can also be realized accessibly.
